I. v. To jerk, tug, snatch at; specif. in sea-taboo speech, of a fish: to take the bait (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)).

II. n. A jerk, tug, twitch.Sh. 1892 G. Stewart Fireside Tales 247:
Just as Girzie taks on da cashie she gies her a most tremedous triv.
