TUGGIN, n. The pine marten, Martes martes. Gael. The writer in the quot. has confused the scientific name of the animal with that of the beech marten which is not found in Scotland.Highl. 1833 Mag. Nat. Hist. VI. 203:
The Marten (Mustelafoina) . . . sometimes, in the Highlands, where it is common, it takes to killing lambs. It is there called tuggin.
