TURMOIL, v. To work hard, to toil laboriously. Obs. in Eng. exc. dial. Hence ¶turmjulet, “one who toils in the earth” (Sh. 1905 E.D.D.), but the form suggests the ppl.adj.Abd. 1832 W. Scott Poems 22:
Monnie a ane can hear him i' the dark Turmoilin sair, whan he's engag'd at wark.

[This meaning has developed from association with moil.]
