TURRISH, int. Also toorish. A dairymaid's call to a cow to stand still (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 450, toorish). Also transf.Wgt. 1878 “Saxon” Gall. Gossip 264:
It [a cow] would n't be quiet, and she clapped it on the side and said ‘turrish! turrish! ' . . . “Wull the callen no turrish?” meaning will the young girl not stand still.
