UPLAYER, n. One who prepares loads for a beast of burden, esp. one who loads peats on a pony at a peat-hill (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., Sh. 1973).Sh. 1949 J. Gray Lowrie 26:
I widna laek ta be uplayer, fur ye wid need ta kerry a trap alang wi' you [in loading a camel].
Sh. 1964 Folk Life II. 13:
Normally the women piled up the peat at the bank and filled the kishies ready for transport. They were the uplayers.
