†UVEILTER, v. To welter, wallow (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.). But Jak. gives the form under ovelter as an adj. meaning on its back, unable to rise, of an animal, and Edm. Gl. is prob. inaccurate.
[For the adj. sense cf. Norw. dial. aa(l)velta, an upside-down position, aalvelt, capsized, of an animal; also Faer. avveltur, Icel. afvelta, id., Awal(d) adj. and Awald v. The two words may have become confused in Sh.]
