VANDLÖB, n. Also va(a)ndlüb, vandlup, vaandlob, vanlop. A heavy shower of rain, a downpour (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), vandlup (o' rain), Sh. 1973). [′vɑn(d)ləp]Sh. 1897 Shetland News (2 Oct.):
If he sets in wi' storms an' vandlöbs o' watter.

[O.N. vatnahlaup, a leaping or rushing forth of waters, floods. Cf. also Faer. vatnlop, a landslide caused by floods or pent-up water.]
