VOAMD, adj., n. Also vomd, vamd (Sh. 1973); and with variant ppl. ending vo(a)min. [vo:md, ′vo:mɪn]
I. adj. Of meat or fish: tainted, gone bad, putrescent (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1973), stinking, having a rotten smell (Sh. 1914 Angus Gl.).Sh. 1899 J. Spence Folk-Lore 178:
[Fish-] Heads dow'd, vam'd an draven, affectin' da nose.
II. n. Meat injured by being kept too long (Sh. 1825 Jam.). But phr. = I., incorrectly defined.
[Norw. dial. våmen, = I., from våm, nausea, O.N. váma, sickness. The -d forms are conformed to the Eng. pa.p. -ed.]
