WIDDICK, n. Also wid(d)ek (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)). A peat (Sh. 1814 Irvine MSS.). Gen. in pl., in taboo usage phr. to blad de wid(d)eks, to cut peats (Jak.). See Blad, v.2 [′wɪdək]

[Dim. form of Widdie, in the sense of a tough root or stem of heather. etc., found in many peats. Cf. Faer. viðja, a root of juniper in peat.]
