AMANGST, 'MANGST, Imangs, prep. Amongst, among. Gen.Sc. Less frequent in Sc. than amongst in St.Eng. [ə′mɑŋst Sc.; ɪ′mɑŋz w.Sc.] For Amongst see s.v.Sc. 1728 Ramsay Poems II. 80:
Away he flies To seek her amangst Families.
ne.Sc. 1884 D. Grant Lays and Legends of the North (1908) 91:
Against the granite rocks which strive To bar his silver floods, And force them o'er the cultured meads, Or 'mangst the borderin' woods.
s.Sc. 1887 Jam.6:
Imangs them, imangis themsell, in their own hands, together, in common.
