AWOW, AVOW, int. An exclamation of sorrow; alas! Also in phr. alake or alas and avow.Sc. 1789 Shepherd's Wedding 12 (E.D.D.):
To do as she did, alake and avow.Abd. 1768 A. Ross The Rock and the Wee Pickle Tow (1778) vi.:
But to do as I did, alas, and awow, To busk up a rock at the cheek of the low, Says, that I had but little wit in my pow.
