BA'-MONEY, n. Money demanded from a wedding party to buy a football.Ork. 1920 J. Firth Reminisc. Ork. Par. (1922) 58:
If the bridegroom chanced to be neither a native of, nor a residenter in, the parish where the wedding took place, the boys of that parish were entitled to receive from him as much money as would enable them to purchase a football. . . . So while the company partook of the refreshments, the barn door was besieged by a crowd of boys shouting for “ba'-money.”
