Bar, ear, bearded ear of corn; the upper part of the straw where the ear is attached: "de b[ar] o' de strae." [Also known to Sh.4]Ork. 1929 Marw.:
Bar, the grain end of a sheaf, the "heads" of corn in a sheaf . . . bar means the whole mass of heads in a sheaf. Thus one speaks of the "bar-end" of the sheaf as opposed to the "tail-end."
