2. Between the eyes, face to face. Cf. Atween, 3 (4).Sc. 1880 R. L. Stevenson Letters (1899) I. 174:
I saw that gentleman [Hades] between the eyes, and fear him less after each visit.

3. Between the (two) lights, “twilight” (Sc. 1905 A.W. in E.D.D. Suppl.).Sc. 1933 N. B. Morrison Gowk Storm 214:
Dusk, “between-the-lights” Nannie called it.

4. Between two minds, “undecided” (Sc. 1905 A.W. in E.D.D. Suppl.).
