BOUNCING CHIPPY, n. A game of marbles. (See quot.)Arg.¹, Ayr.³ 1933:
Chippy. Five or six players each placed his marble in a row and each then chipped at them in turn with a single marble from a given distance, getting whatever marbles he struck out of the row. In Bouncing Chippy the marbles were set at the foot of a wall and the players were allowed to throw the marble and step forward and catch it on the bounce and so get a nearer shot.
