BRANDLING, n. A young salmon, a parr. Given as St.Eng. in Un. Eng. Dict., as dial. in N.E.D., but not mentioned in Concise. Cf. Branlie and Brannock.Gall. c.1700 Dr Archbald in A. Symson Large Descr. of Gall. (1823) App. VI. 150:
A brandling is a little fish found in the water of Fleit about the bigness of a little trout, with many red spots.
