CAUL, n.2 A triangular-shaped cap. Used attrib. in quot. N.E.D. gives caul, a kind of close-fitting cap worn by women, as obs. except hist. Cf. Kell, n.1Abd. 1844 W. Thom Rhymes and Recoll. 124, Note:
Elspet on that day, wore . . . a high caul cap on her head.
