CHATTERIN(G)-BIT(E), -CHAW, -PIECE, n.phr. “A piece of oat-cake [or biscuit] eaten when one leaves the water in bathing in the open air” (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 218, -piece; Bnff.2, Abd.9 (-chaw), Abd.16, Ags.2 (-bit), Fif.10, Arg.1, Kcb.1 (-bite) 1939). Cf. Chitterin' Bit.Mry.1 1925:
