CLEG, Kleg, n.2 and v. [klɛg]
1. n. “Loamy, adhesive mass; mire. Now commonly clag from L.Sc.” (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), kleg).
2. v. “To adhere, of a sticky mass” (Ib.); “to clog” (Uls. 1880 W. H. Patterson Gl. Ant. and Dwn.).
Hence cleggy, kleggi (Jak.), sticky, adhesive.Uls. 1931 “Bangor” in North. Whig (16 Dec.) 9/5:
That wet clay is terbil cleggy.
