CLUNK, n.3 A large mass or lump, esp. of cheese or beef. Cf. Klunsh. [klʌŋk]Bnff.2 1936:
Aff he set for hame, as happy's Laurie, wi' a quarter o' breed in ae han', an' a clunk o' cheese in the ither.

[Prob. a reduced form of Clunkart, n., 1, below, with influence from Eng. chunk, but cf. Norw. and Sw. dial. klunk, a lump (Falk and Torp s.v. kluntet), which is of the same origin.]
