COIF, n. Variant of quaff, a shallow wooden vessel (see Queff). Cf. Quaich, n.1n.Sc. c.1730 E. Burt Letters North Scot. (1754) I. 188:
It is often drank . . . out of a Cap or Coif as they call it; this is a wooden Dish, with two Ears or Handles, about the Size of a Tea Sawcer, and as Shallow.
