DIG, v. Sc. usages in phrs.: 1. Dig for silver, a children's game (Per., Kcb. 1898 A. B. Gomme Trad. Games II. 413–4); 2. to dig wi' baith feet, “said of a clever person” (Uls. 1880 W. H. Patterson Gl. Ant. and Dwn.); 3. to dig with the same foot, to belong to the same religious denomination (Ib.); 4. to dig with the wrong foot, to belong to a religious persuasion different from that of the speaker (Ib.); cf. Left-fitter; also used of differing political beliefs (Kcb.10 1940).
