Sc. usage: to perplex, puzzle, non-plus (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.). Also in Eng. dial. Hence fessener, a puzzler, a baffling problem (Ib.; m.Lth.1 1951).Rxb. 1925 E. C. Smith Mang Howes 12:
