1. The whiting, Gadus merlangus (ne.Sc. 1951).
2. The whitethroat, Sylvia communis (Mry. 1895 Harvie-Brown and Buckley Fauna Mry. Basin I. 234); also applied to other birds of the same family, e.g. willow wren and sedge warbler (Abd. 1888 Trans. Bnff. Field Club 25).
