GASKIN, n. Also gasken, gascoigne. In comb. green-gaskin, the name of a variety of rough green gooseberry (Sc. 1825 Jam., 1900 E.D.D.).Sc. 1791 Mrs Frazer Cookery 195:

The kinds of gooseberries preferred are not very numerous. . . . Among these may be particularly mentioned the Scotch Red, the Preserving, the Green Gascoigne.
