HORNA, n. Also hornoo (Ork.5 1957). A female horned animal, e.g. a ewe of a horned breed, gen. used as a pet-name. Cf. Hornie, n., 1.Sh. 1922 J. Inkster Mansie's Röd 36:
I took nae mair notice, fur I wis gotten me ee apo' wir horna an' her lamb.

[Horn + -a. Cf. Norw. dial. hyrna, a horned animal. For -a, orig. fem. ending, cf. hesta, a mare, s.v. Hest.]
