KID, n.1 Also kidi (Jak.), kiddo, -y (Marw.), kiddie. Terms of endearment or call words for a sheep or lamb, esp. a motherless or pet-lamb (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928); Ork. 1929 Marw.; I.Sc. 1960). Cf. Caddie, n.2, q.v. [′kɪd(i, -o)]Sh. 1912 Old-Lore Misc. V. ii. 52:
A lamb again is supposed to come to the words, “kiddie! kiddie!”
