KJ-. A spelling frequently employed by Shetland and occas. Orkney writers to represent the common I.Sc. palatalisation of k before a vowel [kj-], in imitation of Norwegian spelling. See K, and J. Spellings with y rather than j are to be preferred in Sc. Cf. Gj-.
