LIQUID, adj. Sc. Law usage, of a debt: ascertained and constituted against the debtor, either by a written obligation or by the decree of a court (Sc. 1838 W. Bell Dict. Law. Scot. 599, 1946 A. D. Gibb Legal Terms 52).Sc. 1754 Erskine Principles iii. iv. § 7:
The debtor's oath is not what creates the debt, or makes it liquid; it only declares that such a liquid sum was truly due before.
Sc. 1896 W. K. Morton Manual 339:
If the creditor's claim is liquid, that is, definitely ascertained and constituted, as by a bond or bill.
