MIS-, pref. Common in Sc. prefixed to words which already connote something wrong or perverse, in which case mis- takes on an intensive force. Obs. in Eng. since 16th c. See exx. below. Also found in place of mod. Eng. dis- as in Misbelieve, Miscontented, etc.
