QUEETIKIN, n. Also queetiken, cweetikin; quitiken. ne.Sc. forms of Cuitikin, q.v., a gaiter, spatterdash (ne.Sc. 1967). Gen. used in pl. in all senses given s.v. Phr. a cat in cweetikins, used in exclam. of astonishment, phs. orig. a corruption of Cuitikin, 5.Abd. 1833 Abd. Shaver (12 Dec.) 25:
His two pair of inexpressibles, his white queetikens.
Mry. 1898 Weekly Free Press (25 June):
Wi' breeks o' that ilk, an' queetikins too.
Abd. 1955 W. P. Milne Eppie Elrick i.:
Weel, weel, ahin 'is a cat an' cweetikins.
