REVEL, n.2, v. Also revvle (Edm .), reffle.

I. n. A wattled fence, a fence of interwoven slats (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1908 Jak. (1928)). II. v. To rail the top of a dyke with sticks, wire or rope; also to secure corn or hay by ropes (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1968).

[Jak. connects the word with Norw. rivla, revle, a loose plank or spar in flooring, a floor of such, a strip of cloth, Faer. revil, a strip or slat of wood, O.N. refil, a strip of cloth, a hanging, but there are semantic difficulties and the word may be simply an extended usage of Ravel, n.1]
