SCUIF, n. Also scufe, scoof. [skøf]

1. A scoop, a small hand-shovel such as is used by grocers, seedsmen, or the like (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.; Lth., Rxb. 1969); a fish-slice (Fif. 1969).

2. A bat used by boys for playing at tennis or handball (Rxb. 1825 Jam., ‡1923 Watson W.-B.). Cf. Scuff, n., 3.
