STRYN, n. Sc. form of Eng. strain, a melody, tune, used fig. in quot. [strəin]ne.Sc. 1893 Dunbar's Wks. (S.T.S.) III. 39:
“He can tak' a stryn on's ain pipes” — i.e., he can suit himself.
