TEETIN, n. Also -ing, teetan; titing; titen, -in (Jak.), = Teetick above, the meadow pipit (Ork. 1806 P. Neill Tour 204, teeting, 1866 Edm. Gl., 1929 Marw.; I.Sc., Cai. 1972); the rock pipit (Sh. 1885 C. Swainson Brit. Birds 46, teetan). This last meaning is doubtful. Comb. teeting-tang, see Tang, n.1, 2. (14).

[The Ork. form, corresp. to Sh. teetick. from Norw. dial. titing, a small bird. The -en, -in forms are doubtful for Sh.]
