1. To confuse, put in a disorderly state (Dmf. 1825 Jam., tevvel).
2. To behave in a disorderly stupid manner.Dmf. 1828 Carlyle in Early Life (Froude 1882) II. 37:
‘What think'st a he means,' said my father, ‘gawn up and down the country tevelling and screeching like a wild bear?'.
