WADE, n.2 Also wed (.Jak.). The after-part of a boat, where the fish are drawn in (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl., Sh. 1973). Phr. to sit in the wed, to sit by the man who hauls in the fishing-lines, and help to unhook the fish (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XI. 227, 1914 Angus Gl.). [wed, wɛd]
