WHEEZE, v.1, n.1 Also wheese, weese; and with imit. alteration of vowel whauze. Sc. forms and usages, more commonly in freq. form Wheezle, q.v. [ʍi:z, ʍǫ:z]

I. v. 1. As in Eng. (ne.Sc. 1974, whauze). Ppl.adj. ¶wheesit, wheezy, given to wheezing, short-winded.Gall. 1929 Gallov. Annual 25:
Thole wi' that puir gleyt son o' men Wha's dodderin' roun' beside Lochen', Blin', deef, an' wheesit.

2. To cough. Vbl.n. weesin, coughing (Bwk. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XI. 210).

II. n. A wheeze, a hard breathing.Ags. 1861 “Robin” Rimes 54:
In her throat he heard ane whauze.
