SIZZON, n., v. Also sizzen. Sc. forms of Eng. season (Abd. 1871 W. Alexander Johnny Gibb xviii.; Knr. 1891 H. Haliburton Ochil Idylls 45; Ags. 1894 J. B. Salmond Bawbee Bowden (1922) 127, ne.Sc. 1970). Hence sizzonin, seasoning (Abd. 1905 Banffshire Jnl.), sizzont, -ent, seasoned (Abd. 1917 E. S. Rae Poems of War 94, 1929 J. Alexander Mains and Hilly 143). For form cf. Rizzon. [′sɪzən; season is still pron. [′se:zən] in many parts of Scot.]
