Inhibitio(u)n, n. Also: -icio(u)n, inhibetion, inhybytyowne, (inibictioun). [ME. inhibicioun (1387), OF. inibicion, med. (and rare class.) L. inhibitio.]
1. The action of inhibiting or forbidding; prohibition, espec. as imposed by an authority. Freq. in phrases to mak(e, gif, put inhibitioun to (a person).a1400 Leg. S. xlii. 188.
