Kyle, Kyll, n. [Gael. caol, gen. caoil, noun f. caol adj. ‘narrow’. In Sc. very largely confined to place-names in Highland areas.] A ‘narrow’ of water: a narrow strait or sound or narrow part of a river. —?1549 Monro W. Isles 7.
