Modificatioun, n. Also: modificatioune, -cioun, -tion(e, modeficatio(u)n. [e.m.E. modyfycacyon (1502) determination of ‘modes’, in philosophy, modification (1603) limitation, qualification, restriction, F. modification (14th c.), L. modificātio; but in Sc. in the senses of Modify v.]
1. The assessment and prescription of the exact amount (of a due payment, price, valuation, etc.); specification as to the exact sum or amount. 1492 Acta Conc. I. 248/1.
