Proport, v. Also: -portt-; (proprote). [Only Sc. OF proporter (1118 in Godef.), var. of porporter Purport v., late L. *prōportāre to carry forth; cf. med. L. proportare (prae-, por-) to extend (12th c. in Du Cange).] Chiefly of writings, esp. legal documents: To convey to the mind; to set forth (that something is the case); to express; to state.Usu. in present tense.Freq. in the phr. as, also (once) efter, (the document specified) (fullely, at mair lenth, etc.) proportis.If the Spalding quot. is correct, also (once) active with passive sense.Also ellipt.(1) pres. 1398 MacRae Early Sc.
