Quachet, Quhachet. (Renderings in the 15th c. vernacular translations of the Assisa Panis Oboli (Acts I 312f.) of the med. L. quachetus, the name of a type of loaf of white leavened bread weighing more than the wastel. The latter appar. corresponds to med. L. coketus (1256), panis coketus (c1324), panis de coketo (c1355), ME coket (1266), the name of a variety of bread made of fine flour, and the weight of a standard loaf of this bread, occurring in the English Statute of Bread and Ale (51 Henry III). The origins of both coket(us and quachet(us are obscure or uncertain. Skene's suggested equation with Fage n. (Skene Verb. S. s.v. Qvhatecvs) is doubtless pure conjecture.) —14..
