Ripe, v.2 Also: ryp(e, ryip. P.t. also rypped. [ME and e.m.E. ripe(n (12th c.), ripe (Cursor M.), OE rípian; Ripe adj.]In some instances in which the verb is conjugated with to be, or in the p.p. there is ambiguity between senses 1 and 2, as formally the usage may be either tr. or intr.
