[ME and e.m.E spirituellyche (Ayenbite), spiritually (14th c.), spirituallie (c1440), spretually (Tindale); Spiritual(e adj.] In a spiritual way; in the spirit; according to spiritual or religious principles. Freq. with reference to man's soul as requiring nourishment of a figurative sort, suffering distress, etc. Also, in contradistinction to temporaly, carnaly and bodely.(1) c1420 Wynt. v 5675.
