Subchanto(u)ry, n. Also: -orie, -erie, subchantrie. [Cf. e.m.E. subchauntershipe (1546); Subchantour n.] The office of subchanter in a particular diocese or province; the perquisites or income of a subchantery.The income of a subchanter seems to have been derived wholly or chiefly from the fruits of the particular benefice associated with his subchantery (see the quots. 1573 and 1635 below). 1491–2 Acts Lords of Council I 209/2.
