Tapet, Tapit, n. Also: tapeit, tapyt(e, tapat, taipit, tappet, taphet, tapace. Pl. also tapettis, tapeteis. [ME and e.m.E. tapit(e, -yte (all Cursor M.), tapet (Wyclif), OE teped, tæpped, -et, late L. tapētium.] A tapestry or similar richly worked or coloured cloth used as a covering, carpet, etc. Cf. Tapeis n. 1436 Exch. R. IV 680.]
