Allege, v.1 Also: alege, ellege; alleyge, alleige (aleig), alliege; (pres. p. allegeand, -ant, allegiand;) allea(d)ge; allage, alage; allegge, alledge. [ME. alegge, allegge (c 1300; later alledge), and alege, allege (later al-, alleage), used in the sense of L. allēgāre, but not phonetically corresponding to it.]

1. tr. With direct object: To cite or quote as an authority; to advance as a reason or statement; to assert or affirm.a1400 Leg.
