Helter, n.1. Also: heltir, -ar. [North. ME. heltere, -ir, -yr (14 … ), midl. and south. halter, haltre, OE. hælfter, hælftre.] A halter. Also attrib. with stalk.(1) 1497 Treas. Acc. I. 328.
